As Floor Fairy, you preside over the “home” feel of Blade and Spade. We all know a “home” feel when we’re in it. A “home” feel is the feeling of a place that is cared for and loved, mainly because the people in it feel at home, welcome and rested.

How do we create a “home” feeling? Cleaning, communication, and consistency!

Cleaning can feel mundane and repetitive, another bin of dishes, another sweep of the floor. However, think of it as each new person who steps into the cafe is experiencing it all in that moment. That “home” feeling is experienced every moment that someone walks through the door. While sometimes we’re “in the weeds” and sweeping has to be delayed for dishes, so we can serve guests, the Floor Fairy should always be looking to re-infuse the feeling of home at every opportunity.

Communication is an essential piece of the Floor Fairy’s role. You are greeting guests as they walk in, orienting them in the space, clarifying any questions about the menu, and taking their order. Many of those walking into the cafe will not have the knowledge of the benefits of the plant medicines we offer. Clear and concienseous communication of these plant medicines and how we offer them in a relatable and pleasant experience can have the potential to aid someone hurting in body or spirit. Don’t underestimate the ability your communication can have to bring a bright new experience to someone’s life! You are the gatekeeper of someone’s understanding or lack thereof of the mission and intention of Blade and Spade.

Consistency is key for all the roles but especially for the floor fairy. Being able to consistently communicate a guest's orders/requests to the Kitchen Witch and Brewista are essential for them to fill their roles well! Being able to rely on hearing “order in!”, have dishes cleaned, syrups filled, tables wiped, bathroom clean, and floor cleaned brings essential confidence and renewed energy for everyone else working that day. The Floor Fairy has the capacity to make even the busiest day feel like a gentle flow.

We have one full time position available for a passionate barista, if you have excellent skills, previous experience in a fast paced cafe/bar, an awesome attitude and take pride in your work then please apply.

To join our team, you must:

• Have minimum 1 year experience in a previous barista role
• Have the ability to work well under pressure whilst preserving an impeccable attention to detail.
• Have open communication skills and work in symbiosis within a team
• Be capable of handling a range of emotions and capacity to communicate them clearly
• Knowledge of herbal medicine/permaculture/ancestral medicine is preferred but at minimum, interest is required
